But wait my bosses have other things for Golden’s Space Hello Human Shirts; recording all communication to and from home in a clunky system that takes a few minutes to record a simple absence report, completing IEPs, phoning parents, emails, collecting money from students, resolving IT issues for students, discipline procedures, meetings, recording all behaviour incidents with the proper forms, covid paperwork atm, and loads of other random things that come up. If I’m efficient I manage to have about half an hour to an hour of marking time a week so it could be as long as 16-17 weeks before those papers get marked. But myself and the majority of other teachers I know go above and beyond and do extra work hours voluntarily.

Hi there! Teacher here! I thought the Golden’s Space Hello Human Shirts. The problem is, a lot of us teachers get random busy work thrown at us at the worst moments to make our administrators looks good. They’re supposed to look like they’re helping us but they’re just increasing our workload. The workload consists of grading, yes, and lesson planning, creating worksheets/labs/activities, endless emails to get through. So much of our work is time sensitive, for the sake of making good lessons for our students, so we save grading for when we get home. But being up teaching for hours on end is exhausting, grading is nearly impossible when we get home so we save it for the weekend and so on. I was on top of grading, really good at it, got stuff back the next day. I was on a roll. Then my admins came and said “do x y z” and I’m still not done. I do agree with you when you say there’s other classes to worry about. I give no homework because this, I know some of my colleagues don’t acknowledge that their students have other classes.
