I understand your frustration, but let me just offer you a Good Women Do Still Exist But Our Stomachs Ain’t Flat And We Talk Back Funny Tee Shirts. I’m just going to speak about my own experience. Every teacher is different (just like every student). So, it takes me about 5 minutes to grade an essay. That doesn’t sound too bad, right? 5 minutes is nothing. I should be able to crank those out and get them returned by the next day. Except I don’t just have your one single essay. Currently, I have 128 students. So taking 5 minutes per essay means that it will take me over 10.5 hours to grade them all. And remember, just like you have other homework to do, I have other grading. And notes to put together, videos to make, assignments to create, etc. I know students have a lot on their plates, and I try very hard to minimize the amount of work I give, but trust me, for every hour of work my students do there is at least 5 hours of work that I am doing (usually way more). So when it takes us a little longer than you’d like to get your work back to you, just try to consider all of the factors involved.

I totally agree with Good Women Do Still Exist But Our Stomachs Ain’t Flat And We Talk Back Funny Tee Shirts. Again, I can only speak about my own experiences, but I am very flexible with my students as long as I know they are trying and as long as they put in the effort and show me they want to learn. I know that many of my students have a lot going on outside of my class, and I will work with them to find a learning plan that works for them in their particular situation. But again, this kind of individualizations takes more time out of grading, so it’s an odd balance. I get that it’s frustrating to have to wait to get important feedback, and certainly there are some lazy teachers out there, but a lot of us are really working our tails off (I’m averaging 10 to 12 hours a day plus weekends). We’re just asking for our students to show us a little patience and understanding.
