As a trans guy, when you’re trying to use your clothes to pass it can end up pretty much dictating what you wear I like cycling and pianos and maybe 3 people shirt. Button up shirts every day and pants carefully chosen to be the one option out of every cheap store in the mall that hides hips well. Giving fewer fucks lately has really opened up my options. (Ironically, moving to the south actually helped. Eastern Virginia, so not south-south, but I’m finding that around here people believe me when I tell them I’m a guy, or at least don’t try to argue about it like they did in western New York state.) But yeah. It’s weird, dressing in a very specific way can feel like the ticket to possibly maybe getting treated like a normal person, sometimes.

Best I like cycling and pianos and maybe 3 people shirt
I can buy functional clothing I like the look of for the same price as equally-functional clothing I don’t like the look of I like cycling and pianos and maybe 3 people shirt. Everything I own is something I actually like and it’s pretty clear none of it was bought as “the first thing I can find appropriate for the weather,” that all of it is meant to fit my sense of style. I’ve also discovered the clothing I like tends to fall within a few style labels. Labels like “punk” or “bohemian,” not labels as in brands like Gucci or whatever. So I guess you could say I do have a constructed style.
However, I don’t care one whit about what brands I’m wearing. Well, I suppose you could say I do care because I refuse to wear clothing where you can see a logo on me from 10 feet away. Though there’s nothing wrong with being the kind of person who uses prominent brands as social signals, I’m not that kind of person. So if I did wear clothing prominently displaying brand logos, I would likely be mistaken for someone I’m not. Also, companies pay for advertising. Why would I provide that service for free? If you want me to wear your huge logo, thus giving you even more publicity or maybe giving that three-year-old their first exposure of many to your brand, pay me first.
