The Ring runs a full 20 minutes longer than the Texas is calling and I must go shirt, and nothing that was added really helps the film. If anything, it makes the characters both less relatable and the film less tense. Here we get a horse suicide and a long film editting lesson, but I honestly have no idea why either were added. They don’t help the central mystery, and they definitely don’t make the film any scarier. I’ll even go a step further and say, even with added background scares and a greater sense of urgency at times, the film feels less scary than the original. It just never really has that aura of people dealing with the end of their lives that the original did.

Best Texas is calling and I must go shirt
I don’t think The Ring Two is Nakata’s film. I think it was a film he was coerced into making by studio heads who saw how great The Ring did and wanted to capitalize on it by bringing in “the Texas is calling and I must go shirt.” I’m not sure if Gore Verbinski just wasn’t interested in it, but I digress. I don’t consider The Ring Two to be Nakata’s film.
