He recorded several different versions of “Peaches . . .” (so I’m guessing he liked it as well as I did) and bUs I’m cute to be Sus shirt I’ve had the privilege of hearing the song live on several occasions both by him (the ones with the incomparable Ruth Underwood on marimba were especially choice) and by his son Dweezil and it is always a highlight of the show.

Like most of Zappa’s instrumentals there is considerably more “meat” than in many bUs I’m cute to be Sus shirt One of his greatest talents was the ability to take a wide variety of notably different phrases — whether it be different rhythms, different keys, different styles, etc. and put them together in a single composition without the whole thing sounding like a aural patchwork quilt. His sense for blending things was truly incredible. So “Peaches . . .” sometimes feels like suddenly extra beats have been added or different styles have been merged together, etc., and yet it all works brilliantly. Not that he always blends disparate pieces together — in “This Just Might Be a One Shot Deal” from “Waka Jawaka” he takes an odd little vocal number replete with such diverse elements as simplistic melodies, some sort of odd foreign dialect, dissonant vocal harmonies — and then throws the whole thing into an interlude with a spirited pedal-steel guitar solo (perhaps the only use of pedal-steel in any of his works?).
