On a fun note I first saw Santana when I was working for Sound ‘70 Yes I am old but I saw Modius Grue on stage signatures shirt, a production company based in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was on his tour for the album “Amigos”. I was a Production Assistant. After the show my boss asked around looking for someone who new any good places to go fishing in the area. I said I did. He told me I was taking Santana’s keyboardist, Tom Coster, fishing the next day as the band had a layover and he loved to fish. So I did. He wanted to fish for bass, but the lake we were on, Chickamauga, didn’t have a lot of bass in it. But it had catfish for days. I was with Mr. Coster when he caught his first catfish. And let me tell you, he dug it! He was a very nice guy by the way.

I suppose if he only sang, people would get tired of his voice pretty quickly. And if Ringo only drummed, how could he sing “Yellow submarine”? And if he tried to sing and drum all night—look, he’s pushing 80 and he’s still bopping around a stage; that’s asking a bit much of his energy levels, I think…
